For Men

When she comes to you and tells you she could be pregnant, it’s natural to feel nervous or unsure. You might feel scared, confused, or angry. That’s why we welcome men at Pregnancy Services of Gratiot County. You are not alone in this situation. The two of you can get through this. She needs you now more than ever! It’s vitally important that you provide her with the support she needs – emotionally, mentally and physically. This page has some tips on how you do this.

First…

Make an appointment with us for you and your partner to find out if she is really pregnant. Call us at (989) 466-2295 for a free laboratory-quality urine pregnancy test.

Second…

Sign up for an OB Ultrasound exam which we offer for free in our building. The OB Ultrasound exam will answer three important questions that are critical regardless of what options you both are considering: 1) Is the pregnancy viable — that is, is the pregnancy in the uterus? 2) Is there a heartbeat? 3) How far along is she?

Now you know she’s pregnant! What’s next?

Action Steps…

Talk with her & listen.

Keep the lines of communication open between the two of you. Listen in an open, non-judgmental way and reflect her feelings back to her. Listen, listen, listen! Pay attention to any fears or anxiety she may express about being pregnant.

Talk with people who care.

In addition to keeping the lines of communication open between the two of you, it’s important to discuss the situation with parents (future grandparents) and others who’ll be directly affected. Keeping this a secret will only add to the stress — yours and hers.

Educate Yourself.

Educate yourself. Collect information and seek advice from people you trust.

Be honest with her and yourself.

Own and share how you feel. You may be surprised at how much it will help her to know that you share the same concerns, and you may be surprised at what you learn about yourself!

Embrace your new life.

You know that avoiding the situation will make things harder for the three of you — now, and in the future. You're a team now! You both need to work together to give the baby the best start.
